The Island Radio Operated Car Club (www.IROCC.ca), based in Victoria, BC, formed in 1985 is one of the oldest operating R/C clubs in Canada. The weekend of July 8,9 and 10th was to hold one of the largest attended races in recent history for western Canada with over 90 entries in Electric stock,Mod and Nitro.

Victoria the capital of B.C. is an island roughly 2 hours away from the mainland ( Vancouver) via commuter ferry. The Island is quite large and covers well over 1000 square KM in total.

Members of XRAY Canada attended a local club race back in May in order to prepare for this race. The IROCC club is all about promoting our great sport and have carefully chosen a perfectly flat freshly paved parking lot for their weekly temporary track, that is situated right off of one of the major travel routes on the Island, this positive approach has created a very strong club with many new active members every year. The temporary track is very well thought out and is always a pleasure to drive, the club is famous for fast flowing track designs.. everyone knew this would be a great weekend of racing.

The car of choice in the club is XRAY in fact every race this year has been won by the very fast FK04 of Craig Roberts or the FK05 of Blake Bell, both local racers that are very competitive wherever they travel.

The first main of the day was the 1st of 3 modified A's. Both Dave Palmer( TC4) and Keith Yu (415) didn't survive the 1st corner crash. Alfred Lam (415), Korgae Scales (Fk05) had motors unsolder with less then a minute to go, This gave the win to Jammin Jim with his trusted FK04.

The 1st of the Stock A's was up next, which saw TQ Frank Bortolazzo (FK05) win, Blake Bell (Fk05) 2nd and Korgae Scales (FK05) 3rd. Blake Bell set the fastest time of the day in stock with a 12.9 second lap.

The 2nd A of Modified was up next, which saw 1st round winner Jammin Jim out early in the race with I believe motor problems. Keith Yu managed to pull off win over Korgae Scales in 2nd. Korgae did manage to post the fastest electric lap time of the weekend, with a 12.2 second lap.

Frank Bortolazzo pulled off another win in stock A2, securing a perfect score for the event with blistering TQ (23/5:04.48), a first main win (23/5:06.48) and 2nd main win (23/5:07.82). All that was left was a battle for 2nd place in the 3rd and final round of A's. Franks set up will be posted in the set up section shortly.

The last modified A was up next, and there was some confusion at the start since a couple cars declined to take the start of the race. The drivers were still getting sorted out on the grid when the starting horn went, contributing to mass confusion. Korgae Scales pulled off his first A win of the day (24/5:13.16), which secured him 1st place overall with a 1st, 2nd and 4th place finish, breaking the tie with Keith Yu for the overall win.

Now for the show everyone had been waiting for; the battle for 2nd place in stock. Frank Bortolazzo (Team XRAY Canada) did the curtious thing and sat out this race, since it was impossible for him to improve. He leant his obviously excellent car out to Korgae Scales who had relatively little track time due to the fact he had not made it over for the 1st day of qualifying.

Blake Bell (Fk05) and Brian Black (FK05) took off from the front of the pack and had an excellent battle for the lead. Lapped traffic helped Brian Black get by Blake, but just a few laps later, lapped traffic helped Blake get by Brian Black, and gave Blake a sizable lead in return. This finish ended up giving 2nd overall to Blake Bell, 3rd to Brian Black and 4th to Korgae Scales.

Because of the large entry, please visit www.irocc.ca for full results and roughly 200 pictures from the weekend.
